When photography becomes boring

5 mins

It's no secret that doing something every day for years can start to get a bit dull. This has happened to me with my photography a lot in the past, leading me to take breaks. This was a big issue for me because when taking a break from photography I always found it difficult to find the motivation to start again. That’s why I feel that the best way to get out of a photography rut, is to continue taking photos. It sounds counterintuitive at first, but instead of taking your normal photos, try something new. This could be a new genre of photos, a different camera like your phone, or even switching from digital to film. Whenever I have done this in the past, I’ve always found learning about a new theme to be fun. It’s like starting again, but you keep all of the knowledge you have. Some personal examples of this, is when I decided to try shooting photos at night, and experiment with long exposures. I did zero research on how to shoot at night, yet I still managed to create some of my favourite images I’ve taken, all just because I was exploring a new concept. This is the best way to keep photography fun, without the need to take breaks, which is why I try to shoot something/somewhere new every week.
